Fishing in Gig Harbor has been around since 1867. Commercial fishing is still a cultural feature of Gig Harbor and many commercial fishing boats make Gig Harbor their home port. Gig Harbor's fishing fleet still gathers the first weekend in June (during the Maritime Gig Festival) in the center of the bay for the annual Blessing of the Fleet ceremony. Although commercial fishing has declined over the years, recreational fishing has not! There are many favorite "fishing holes" in the area.
